What is Your Purpose?
Your purpose is to be your authentic self, to discover your own uniqueness and embrace it. Everyone has one and no one's is the same. It is the reason you are here on earth. It is not your job or career, although those could be an avenue in which you offer your life purpose. It is who you are here to be and/or what you are here to do. It doesn't need to be action oriented. Rather, it may be more about the qualities you embody, or it could be both. You have something to offer the world. Your life purpose is to deliver it, to be it.
When you are clear on your life purpose, it calls you into action again and again no matter what. You can never lose your purpose. Even during times of distraction or after going off course, the calling will keep calling. Your purpose wants to find you, as much as you want to find it.
Living your life purpose brings you fulfillment and joy. Ignoring or not living your life purpose makes you feel dissatisfied and disconnected.
"The need for meaning and purpose is No. 1. It's the deepest driver of well-being there is." - Alan Rozanski, a professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai who has studied the relationship between life purpose and physical health.
"The equation for your purpose is gifts + passions + values = purpose." - Richard Leider
How to find your purpose:
1. What impact do you want to make on the world, on others?
2. What lights you up?
3. What passions do you have?
4. When do you feel most fulfilled?
5. What are your strengths/gifts?
6. After you have left this planet, what do you want to be remembered for?
7. If you had a magic wand, how would you change for the world for the better?
It can be helpful to create a purpose or mission statement that simply and powerfully describes your purpose.
Examples include:
"I am here to embody love and acceptance for all beings."
"I am here to assist youth in feeling confident and capable in pursing their dreams."
"I am here to inspire others to love and respect their bodies through living a healthy, balanced lifestyle."
"I am here to create and enjoy authentic, joyful relationships and teach others how to do the same."
"I am here to shake up the status quo and empower others to follow their own passions."
"I am here to model self-love and self-respect for my loved ones and all people I cross paths with."
What is your purpose or mission statement?
Write yours out and put it somewhere you will see it regularly.
